About

My name is Robert McCoid, and I am currently a Master of Industrial Design student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I have a passion for all things creative, particularly when the discipline focuses on human-centered design.

I originally hail from the greater NYC area, the northern NJ Shore to be exact. I went on to receive a BFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design. After a few years working with art non-profits, I pivoted toward industrial textile-based product manufacturing as a sailmaker. A lifetime of sailing inspired this endeavor. 5 years in, my appetite for a more purposeful design direction continued to grow.

Due to the Covid-19 shutdown, a manufacturing standstill, and my father's rapidly deteriorating health, I had a renewed interest in Industrial Design and User Experience. The two years spent assisting my father's care needs provided key insights into current pains and gains, particularly around healthcare matters, therapies, and assistive technologies.

I consider myself as a jack-off-all trades, a life-long learner, and NYTimes Crossword geek able to adapt to and solve for unique issues. I approach design much like sail racing. To succeed, you must go in knowing that variables are bound to change. Foresight is required in order to successfully understand the situation and navigate the course ahead. I am eager to apply my varied skills and to execute projects that apply research methods, ease product usability, and boost business initiatives.
